The New Zealand Association for Research in Education Council are pleased to hear that our University of Waikato colleagues will now be able to join us for our conference this week. This conference is the main forum for New Zealand educational researchers, practitioners and policy makers to get together and discuss cutting-edge research and how it impacts educational policy and practice in New Zealand.

The action suspending our colleagues on Friday for 3 days had a profound impact on the organisation of our conference and the uncertainty generated will continue to have an  impact on the ability of our research community to attend and present. We spent a great deal of time considering whether to cancel, postpone, reorganise, or proceed with the conference. We made the decision to proceed with the conference as cancelling it could potentially hurt the education research community. As the learned society for educational research in Aotearoa, these past few days have been a timely reminder that what happens to one part of our sector affects the entire academic community.

He waka eke noa.
