NZARE GRANTS FOR sessions at AERA, CSSE and BERA 2011
NZARE has arrangements with the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the Canadian Society for the Study of Education (CSSE), and the British Educational Research Association (BERA) in which these organisations allocate a session at their annual conference each year for symposium presentations that represent—and are supported by—NZARE.
The 2011 dates and locations of these conferences will appear here as they become available.
The main purpose of the NZARE sessions at international conferences is to showcase examples of the best of recent New Zealand research and/or scholarly work in education. The sessions also allow the presenters to establish and build international linkages to support their ongoing research programmes.

NZARE provides financial assistance of up to $3,000 to each team of presenters.
Current NZARE members are invited to submit proposals for a symposium, or, in the case of CSSE, a paper (or two linked papers), on a completed research project (or linked projects) that was carried out in New Zealand, and that is likely to be of interest to an international audience.
The closing date for submissions of full proposals (see below) for the 2011 conferences is:
31st August 2010.
Proposals should be sent to the NZARE Council member with responsibility for international links, currently:
Prof Stephen May
CRSTIE
Faculty of Education
University of Auckland
PO Box 92601
Symonds St
Auckland 1150
Email: international@nzare.org.nz
The selection process will be complete (and the applicants notified) by end of September 2010. Please note that, while all symposia/papers submitted for selection must be presented at the 2010 NZARE conference, the selection process for representing NZARE at the international conferences is now separate from the NZARE Conference paper submission process.
NZARE aims to promote robust, well-informed research debate in the area of education, in New Zealand and international contexts. Thus the views expressed by symposium presenters may differ from those of NZARE as a research organization, or those of its Council; however, NZARE expects presenters to uphold the principles and spirit of academic freedom, and the NZARE code of ethics.

The 2009 process for selecting symposia to represent NZARE at these conferences in 2010 has now been completed. Thanks to all who submitted proposals.
This year, the group selected to represent NZARE at the 2010 annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association (in Denver, Colorado) is a team led by Professor Stephen May of Auckland University.
The symposium title is: Critical Multiculturalism: Theory and Praxis. The contributors are as follows: Chair: Stephen May; Paper 1: Professor Terry Locke (University of Waikato); Paper 2: Dr Georgina Stewart (New Zealand Council for Educational Research); Paper 3: Katie Fitzpatrick (University of Waikato); Paper 4: Professor Russell Bishop (University of Waikato).
