Membership benefits

The Association presently consists of about 400 personal members and about 60 institutional members. Personal members include teachers, educational researchers, students, educational administrators, and other people with an interest in learning from educational research. Institutional members include schools, colleges of education, libraries, polytechnics, private tertiary education providers, wananga, universities and other organisations where educational research is valued and studied.

Membership of NZARE has many benefits. One of the prime benefits for personal members is the opportunity to meet and to interact with others with similar interests at the NZARE Annual Conference. Members also receive three issues a year of the Association's newsletter, Input, and two issues a year of the New Zealand Journal of Educational Studies. Other benefits include:

  • A membership directory Sep 10 (download now - PDF, 118KB)
Please check your email address and email admin@nzare.org.nz if it needs to be updated.
  • Networking opportunities with others with similar educational research interests
  • Reduced registration fees for the NZARE Annual Conference
  • NZARE sponsorship of local special interest seminars

NZARE offers secure online payment of membership.

Membership Eligibility

If you are a tertiary student, enrolled at least half-time and in less than half-time paid employment, or if you are over 59 years of age and in less than half-time paid employment you may join for half-price.

If you or your institution would like to join the Association and to receive NZARE publications, simply complete the appropriate section of the Application for Membership form and post it, together with the appropriate subscription fee, to The NZARE Secretariat, PO Box 3237, Wellington.

Persons applying for Personal Membership should also show their main areas of research interest using the pre-coded categories on page two of the application form.

Further copies of this Membership Brochure and the Membership Application form may be obtained from any of the Regional Contacts listed in Input or by writing to the Membership Secretary at the address given above. It is important that new members complete a Membership Application form when applying for membership, otherwise their research interests will not be included in the membership database and will not appear in future issues of the Membership Directory.

Keeping Your Membership Current

If you change your address, you should notify the Membership Secretary promptly so as not to miss out on Association publications. You will also want to update the Association's record of your research interests from time to time. This is best done in October when you renew your subscription.

Subscription renewal invoices are sent out on the anniversary of joining. Membership of the Association lapses if a subscription remains unpaid for 4 months.
