The beginnings of NZARE were recounted by Dr Geraldine McDonald in her 2006 Herbison lecture, A spirited beginning: The origins of the New Zealand Association for Research in Education.

NZJES

NZARE publishes the New Zealand Journal of Educational Studies (NZJES) and a newsletter (Input - He Panui o Te Hunga Rangahau Maatauranga o Aotearoa), and organises national conferences and special interest seminars.

Proposals are invited for NZJES special issue 2014. More...

Award ceremonyThrough a range of awards NZARE recognises and honours high achievements in education research. NZARE supports educational researchers, including post-graduate students, and provides assistance to selected presentations at international conferences.

NZARE has three caucus groups with representation on the Council: Māori, Pasifika and students. Recently, te Early Childhood Education special interest group (SIG) was established.
