NZARE 08Conference 2009 > Pre-conference workshop

PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP

Professor Alison Jones (The University of Auckland) generously offered her popular Academic Writing Workshop to conference participants. The workshops served toassist anyone writing a thesis, an academic article or a report.

How to Structure an Argument

This workshop taught the five basic elements of academic argument in a simple, straight-forward way. The most important aspect of argument - whether in a thesis or an article - is its structure; find out how to make your work work.

Analyse and Improve your Writing

This was an opportunity to bring one page of your academic writing to a group and have it analysed for quality. The workshop taught the elements of good writing; these elements form the basis for positive discussion of writing examples from the group.
