AWARDS

NZARE recognises excellence in educational research through its awards structure. The following awards are made annually at the NZARE Conference:

• Geraldine McDonald Scholarship (a one-off scholarship)
• McKenzie Award
• Te Tohu Pae Tawhiti Award
• NZARE Group Awards - Quantitative Research Group Award and Pasifika Group Award
• Sutton-Smith Doctoral Award
• Rae Munro Award
• Herbison Lecture - presentation by an invited speaker

Geraldine McDonald Scholarship

The NZARE Council is seeking applications for the Geraldine McDonald Scholarship. This one-off scholarship, which may take the form of a stipend, is to support a Masters or Doctoral student to write the history of the NZARE as her or his thesis.

• The Scholarship honours Dr Geraldine McDonald and her contribution to the NZARE as its inaugural president.
• It is hoped that this project may be begun in 2008, but proposals will be considered from prospective candidates and/or supervisors for projects beginning later than this.
• The selected candidate will have access to the NZARE archives for the purposes of the project. It may also be possible for the NZARE to provide some assistance in producing a book as a result of the successful thesis.
• The Scholarship is for a sum of up to $5,000 and is negotiable, depending on the nature of the selected candidate's project.
