NZARE GRANTS FOR sessions at AERA, CSSE and BERA

NZARE has arrangements with the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the Canadian Society for the Study of Education (CSSE), and the British Educational Research Association (BERA) in which these organisations allocate a session at their annual conference each year for symposium presentations that represent—and are supported by—NZARE.

The main purpose of the NZARE sessions at international conferences is to showcase examples of the best of recent New Zealand research and/or scholarly work in education. The sessions also allow the presenters to establish and build international linkages to support their ongoing research programmes.

NZARE provides financial assistance of up to $3,000 to each team of presenters.

Current NZARE members are invited to submit proposals for a symposium, or, in the case of CSSE, a paper (or two linked papers), on a completed research project (or linked projects) that was carried out in New Zealand, and that is likely to be of interest to an international audience.

Geraldine McDonald Scholarship

The NZARE Council is seeking applications for the Geraldine McDonald Scholarship. This one-off scholarship, which may take the form of a stipend, is to support a Masters or Doctoral student to write the history of the NZARE as her or his thesis.

  • The Scholarship honours Dr Geraldine McDonald and her contribution to the NZARE as its inaugural president.
  • It is hoped that this project may be begun in 2008, but proposals will be considered from prospective candidates and/or supervisors for projects beginning later than this.
  • The selected candidate will have access to the NZARE archives for the purposes of the project. It may also be possible for the NZARE to provide some assistance in producing a book as a result of the successful thesis.
  • The Scholarship is for a sum of up to $5,000 and is negotiable, depending on the nature of the selected candidate's project.

Expressions of interest and inquiries from potential candidates and supervisors may be made to the NZARE Immediate Past President, Professor Colin Gibbs colin.gibbs@aut.ac.nz
